Sustainability Policy

HML Holdings, together with its subsidiaries, HML Andertons, HML Hathaways, HML Hawksworth and HML Shaw, is conscious of the role property managers can play in the introduction and implementation of policies that create sustainable buildings.  In recognition of that duty we seek to ensure that, when agreeing policies for properties that we manage, consideration is given to the four principles for sustainability summarised by the RICS, and how they might be applied to each building, as follows:

  • Protection of the environment
  • Prudent use of scarce resources
  • Promotion of access to services for the benefit of all
  • Production of a healthy local economy, including high levels of employment

Particular examples will be:

  • Protecting the environment by maximising the use of resources and minimising waste; ensuring that each building has efficient and effective recycling provisions and that any site staff are conscious of the savings that can be made if resources are recycled
  • Protecting the environment by ensuring that, wherever possible, environmentally friendly products are used for both day to day tasks and more major projects
  • Formulating policies for using energy efficiently, such as the use of energy efficient lighting, movement sensors and, where possible, green energy tariffs
  • Promoting the recruitment of staff from the local community, the use of local contractors and promoting the use of local trade

We believe the promotion of sustainability to be a matter for ongoing review and we undertake to keep our property managers up to date, through circulation bulletins and guidance documents, on the latest techniques and good practices for maintaining a sustainable environment.
